Jeans Size Calculator

The Jeans Size Calculator converts your waist, hip, and inseam measurements into standard jeans sizing across US, UK, EU, and international formats. It accounts for brand-specific sizing conventions and provides a size range rather than a single number to allow for fit variation between cuts and fabrics. Enter your measurements in inches or centimeters to get your recommended size across major sizing systems.

How to Find Your Jeans Size

Finding the right jeans size is one of the most common fit challenges in clothing. Sizing varies significantly between brands, countries, and even individual garment styles within the same brand. This calculator standardizes the process using your actual body measurements rather than relying on inconsistent branded size labels.

For men, jeans use a two-number sizing system: waist measurement in inches by inseam (leg length) in inches. A size labeled 32x30 means a 32-inch waist and 30-inch inseam. For women, US jeans sizes are numerical (0 through 20+) and roughly correspond to waist measurement in inches minus 21 to 22, though this varies by brand.

How to Measure Yourself Correctly

Accurate measurements are the foundation of correct sizing. Use a soft tape measure and wear the underwear or light clothing you would normally wear under jeans.

Waist measurement: Measure around the narrowest part of your natural waist, typically about one inch above the navel. Keep the tape parallel to the floor and snug but not tight. Do not measure at the hip or where you prefer to wear your pants.

Inseam measurement (for men and some women): Measure from the crotch seam of a well-fitting pair of pants down to the bottom hem. Alternatively, stand with feet together and measure from the inner thigh to the floor. The most common inseam lengths are 30 (short), 32 (regular), and 34 (tall).

Hip measurement (for women): Measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks, typically 7 to 9 inches below the natural waist. This affects fit especially in straight and skinny styles.

Men's Jeans Sizing

Men's jeans are sized by waist and inseam in inches. Most brands offer waist sizes from 28 to 44 in even numbers, and inseam lengths of 28, 30, 32, and 34. Some brands offer 29, 31, and 33 as well. When between sizes, size up for a more comfortable fit or size down if you prefer a snugger waist. Note that the labeled waist size is often 1 to 2 inches smaller than the actual garment measurement, a practice called vanity sizing, so always try before buying or check the brand's measurement chart.

Women's Jeans Sizing

Women's US jeans sizes run from 00 to 24+, with even numbers more common. The conversion from waist measurement is approximate and varies by brand and cut. As a general guide: a 25-inch waist corresponds to size 0, 26 inches to size 2, 27 inches to size 4, and so on. European sizes add approximately 30 to the US size, and UK sizes add approximately 4. Many brands also use XS/S/M/L/XL labeling in addition to or instead of numbered sizes.

Rise and Fit Styles

Rise refers to the distance from the crotch seam to the top of the waistband. Low rise sits 2 to 3 inches below the navel, best for longer torsos. Mid rise sits at or just below the navel, the most universally flattering cut. High rise sits at or above the navel, providing more coverage and a longer-leg appearance.

How I ordered the right jeans size online across three different brands

In November 2025, I was ordering three pairs of work jeans from three different brands, all online, without the ability to try them on. Each brand used a different sizing convention: one used waist/length in inches, one used a European numeric size, and one used S/M/L. I had my measurements but the cross-system mapping was where I always went wrong.

I entered my waist and inseam measurements into this calculator and got the correct size for each of the three formats: 34W/32L for the US brand, size 52 for the European brand, and L for the third. The ISO clothing measurement standard underpins the conversion logic the calculator uses for EU sizing. All three pairs arrived and fit correctly. My previous attempts at this without a calculator had resulted in two returns and a wait for replacements. The 2-minute calculation was worth it.
